What is lymphatic massage?

Lymphatic massage, also called lymphatic drainage or manual lymph drainage, is a technique developed in Germany for treatment of lymphedema, an accumulation of fluid that can occur after surgery. Lymphatic massage can help foster healing within the body after it has experienced the trauma of surgery. Damage or blockage of the lymphatic system can increase swelling and pain.  Lymphatic massage can help our patients post-surgery by encouraging an increase in healing, stimulating the lymphatic system and breaking down scar tissue. It is known to bring back essential nutrients and blood to the areas operated on in surgery. These are just a few of the reasons why Lymphatic massage can be so integral to your body after going through surgical procedures.

Why is this treatment important especially after Cosmetic Surgery?

Our certified therapists here at Body Mind Spirit Wellness use effective techniques to help reduce pain and edema after Cosmetic Surgery.  It will eliminate dimples, uneven skin, seromas and fibrosis (internal scarring), that are very common to occur especially after a Liposuction. Planning a post-operative treatment and enough recovery time after the procedure before returning to your normal activities is VERY important.  It is common to experience discomfort, swelling and bruising after any plastic surgery procedure and lymphatic drainage massage will be very beneficial to the recovery process.

When should you start the treatment?

As soon as possible!!

The moment you wake up from your surgery, you will feel discomfort, edema and pain. The main benefit of Lymphatic Drainage Massage is to relieve all those uncomfortable symptoms.  This massage technique is very gentle in the early stages of your recovery, so you can start your treatments as soon as 24-72 hours after your surgery and with your doctors' recommendations. The number of sessions needed will vary depending on the type of surgery you had, but it is very beneficial after any procedure
